It can be served warm and soothing or cold and refreshing.

Golden milk has a distinctive taste. It is warmly earthy, supremely spiced, slightly sweet, complexly flavorful, has a light bite to it, and with the addition of coconut oil or if using dairy milk it becomes a rich drink.

Some drinks with similar flavor include chai tea or spicy eggnog.

You have the option to sweeten it, then serve it warm and cozy or chilled and iced. I say this really just depends on the season. I think you'll love it warm during fall and winter months and chilled during spring and summer months.

It's touted to have lots of health benefits (see below) and some say it can even help improve sleep quality.

All the more reason to enjoy this delicious drink! It has tempting flavor and nutritious benefits.

Easy Stovetop Granola https://www.cookingclassy.com/easy-stovetop-granola-recipe/ https://www.cookingclassy.com/easy-stovetop-granola-recipe/#comments Sun, 05 Sep 2021 04:33:25 +0000 https://www.cookingclassy.com/?p=60217 An easy granola recipe made on the stovetop and ready in under 20 minutes! You only need 5 ingredients and to follow a simple skillet cooking method to achieve a delicious granola in no time!

Homemade granola shown in a small serving bowl served over yogurt and fruit.

A Quick and Easy Granola Recipe!

Sometimes I just don't have the patience for how long a lengthy-cook time granola traditionally takes in the oven. And so I set out to test granola over the stovetop to see if I could get a similar result in a fraction of the time.

And believe it or not it works! It's sweet, nutty, crisp, toasty, made with nutritious ingredients, and deliciously fresh. In other words much better than what you buy in a box or bag.

Plus it makes a smaller batch because you may not always need a big batch of granola.

There are endless ways to use it, or you can simply snack on it plain because it's completely irresistible!

Ways to Use This Homemade Granola

  • Add to yogurt or finish it over berry parfaits.
  • Toss into a berry salad instead of croutons (love this one!).
  • Bake some diced, lightly sweetened fruit and use this for a finish.
  • Add to grilled fruit, such as peaches with mascarpone.
  • Sprinkle over ice cream, a banana split, or pudding.
  • Dip fruit into a fruit dip or caramel dip then dunk in the granola.

Homemade Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Chocolate covered strawberries are one of everyone's favorite treats aren't they? And I like to look at this gourmet treat as a semi-healthy. It's a smarter choice than a slice of cake right?

There's a local soup restaurant that serves up soup, salad and always a chocolate covered strawberry for dessert and I think it's absolutely genius. Their soups are pretty good, the salads subpar but honestly I think those chocolate covered strawberries are what keep people coming back time and time again.

Making them at home couldn't be easier and they use ingredients you likely have on hand much of the time, especially in the summer when strawberries are plentiful.

Here I share an in depth guide and foolproof recipe to ensure they turn out perfect for you every time! Dessert doesn't get any easier, or quicker than this!

Pumpkin Oat Chocolate Chip Breakfast Cookies

Breakfast Cookies for Busy Mornings

I love that these flourless cookies are a great on the go breakfast for mornings like those when you volunteered to help at the kids school.

Or when you are running late for work because you just needed five more minutes to sleep because maybe like me your terrible at setting a "bedtime" for yourself.

I'm not a morning person so these cookies were made for me. Literally. But my kids love them too so I guess I have to share.

They have the perfect pumpkin and autumn spice flavor, they have a soft and chewy texture and those little bits of chocolate just make them sing!

Apple Cinnamon Baked Oatmeal

Baked Oatmeal with Apple Cinnamon Fall Flavors

Bring on those cold fall mornings, with this warm baked oatmeal recipe I'm totally ready for it!

It wasn't until a few years ago that I first tried baked oatmeal and now I'm totally hooked!

Just like stovetop oatmeal, it's so versatile, but the texture is so different.

So the people that don't normally like the runny porridge-like oatmeal love this!

And I'm obsessed with this cinnamon, apple and cranberry, walnut combo.

Plus it's sweetened with real maple syrup instead of sugar and uses coconut oil instead of butter so you can feel good about eating this for breakfast! Or lunch, or dinner. That's cool too.?

Turkey Avocado Egg Wraps https://www.cookingclassy.com/turkey-avocado-egg-wraps/ https://www.cookingclassy.com/turkey-avocado-egg-wraps/#comments Thu, 22 Jun 2017 05:46:32 +0000 https://www.cookingclassy.com/?p=31967 Turkey Avocado Egg Wraps are so delicious and way easy to make! Here we ditch the flour based wrap and trade it in for a DIY wrap made from eggs. Then we layer in classic sandwich fillings and enjoy it warm and melty.

Egg Wrap Recipe

A Fun and Tasty Egg Recipe

For the past few weeks I've been eating egg wraps a few days a week for lunch so I figured it was time I shared the recipe with you, or idea anyway.

So the wrap itself is made of egg, so this is very similar to what an omelet tastes like, but like a thin wrapped up omelet instead - and way more fun. Because wraps are fun, you can hold them and eat them using your hands and take them on the go.

Then it's layered with tangy melted swiss cheese, thinly sliced deli turkey (I used Boar's Head Mesquite, it's one of my favs, but for a cheaper alternative I also like Oscar Mayer Naturals), then it's topped with fresh tomato slices, rich creamy avocados and plenty of nutritious spinach.

So in other words, bring on the goodness!

Healthier Whole Wheat Honey Banana Muffins https://www.cookingclassy.com/healthier-whole-wheat-honey-banana-muffins/ https://www.cookingclassy.com/healthier-whole-wheat-honey-banana-muffins/#comments Tue, 14 Feb 2017 01:05:50 +0000 https://www.cookingclassy.com/?p=27979 A healthier treat? Sign me up! These Whole Wheat Honey Banana Muffins are so good people won't even notice they're healthier, my kids had no idea! Instead of being made with plain white flour they are made with healthier white whole wheat flour, then instead of being made with granulated sugar they are made with honey and about half the amount in comparison to the typical amount of sugar that's normally added.

Then another healthier swap is the coconut oil in place of the butter. I'm not normally someone that's into healthier baked goods but when they're this good then I'm all in!

Honey Almond Granola https://www.cookingclassy.com/honey-almond-granola/ https://www.cookingclassy.com/honey-almond-granola/#comments Sun, 22 Jan 2017 07:10:34 +0000 https://www.cookingclassy.com/?p=27808 Honey Almond Granola will quickly become a favorite DIY recipe! This is so easy to make,  it's deliciously sweet, perfectly crunchy and you'll love those bits of nuts! It's perfect paired with milk or serve with yogurt and fruit, it also makes a great on the go snack.

Granola in a bowl with Greek yogurt, fresh fruit and honey.

Honey Almond Granola

This flavorful granola is made with rolled oats, flax seed, almond and it's sweetened and flavored with honey, almond extract and vanilla extract.

This recipe is a breeze to make yet the end result is even better than what you find in a bag at the store! It's hearty, crunchy, sweet and just totally satisfying.

Mixing granola in a glass bowl. Mixture includes, oats, flax seeds, almonds, honey, brown sugar, almond and vanilla extract, coconut oil.

What Ingredients go into This Recipe?

Here's the simple list of ingredients to make it:

  • Rolled oats
  • Almonds
  • Ground flax
  • Coconut oil (or butter)
  • Honey
  • Brown sugar
  • Vanilla extract and almond extract
  • Egg white
  • Fine sea salt

Granola on a parchment paper lined baking sheet after cooking.

How do You Make Honey Almond Granola?

Here's the straightforward steps to making this DIY granola:

  • Preheat oven and line baking sheet.
  • In a bowl toss oats, almonds, flax, oil, sweeteners, extracts, egg white and salt.
  • Spread onto prepared baking sheet and bake, tossing halfway through.
  • Let cool and break into clumps.

Why You'll Love it:

  • You can add your favorite mix-ins and flavors (check out my other recipes below).
  • Homemade is freshest and doesn't have preservatives.
  • It's sweetened with honey, not just sugar.
  • Its cheaper! Those little bitty bags of granola can get expensive, and don't even get me started on the cost of the bakery granola.

Drizzling honey over granola, fruit and yogurt in a bowl.

Tips for This Recipe

  • Try it with other nuts or dried fruit.
  • Don't use quick oats. They're already partially cooked and the texture doesn't work well here.
  • If you'd like you can cut back on the sweeteners a little but it might not crisp or clump together as well, but at least it would be a little healthier.

What Can I Add This Granola To?

  • Add it to salads. I love a spinach salad with berries, raspberry vinaigrette, feta and granola.
  • Sprinkle it over pudding or ice cream for some nice contrast.
  • Make a parfait, layered with fresh fruit, yogurt, honey and granola.
  • Make it into a crust for a breakfast fruit tart.
  • Sprinkle it over a warm fruit filling (like apple pie filling) for a simple crisp.
  • Or just serve it cold cereal style with milk.

Honey Almond Granola

Honey Almond Granola will quickly become a favorite DIY recipe! This is so easy to make,  it's deliciously sweet, perfectly crunchy and you'll love those bits of nuts! It's perfect paired with milk or serve with yogurt and fruit, it also makes a great on the go snack.

  • 3 cups (270g) rolled oats (don't use quick oats)
  • 1 cup (150g) almonds, chopped
  • 1/3 cup (36g) ground flax seeds
  • 1/4 cup (58g) coconut oil, melted and cooled slightly
  • 1/3 cup (110g) honey
  • 1/3 cup (77g) packed light-brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees (if your oven cooks hot be sure to decrease the temperature as needed or the granola will burn. I recommend using an oven thermometer when baking. I always have to reduce my oven by about 15 degrees to get the right temp). Line a rimmed 18 by 13-inch baking sheet with parchment paper, set aside.
  2. In large mixing bowl lightly toss together oats, almonds and ground flax seeds. In a medium mixing bowl whisk together coconut oil, honey, brown sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, egg white and salt until very well blended. Pour honey mixture over oat mixture and toss well until evenly coated. Pour oat mixture onto prepared baking sheet and spread into an even layer.
  3. Bake in preheated oven 13 minutes, remove from oven and flip granola with a spatula and spread back into an even layer. Continue to bake until granola is just lightly golden brown, about 12 - 17 minutes longer (it won't be crisp until it cools, to check for doneness you can place a small piece in the freezer for about a minute or two and see if it becomes crisp. If it doesn't pop the granola back into the oven for a few minutes. After the granola has cooled for about a minute I like to press down on the granola with my hands while it's still warm, I think it helps it clump together more). Let it cool completely, break into clumps then store in an airtight container.
