Yellow Cake with Chocolate Frosting

I’m a big fan of making cake recipes from scratch. While box mixes are convenient, you just can’t beat the taste of a dessert that is truly homemade. They’re just so much better!

Soft and amazingly tender, perfectly sweet, deliciously indulgent, this cake is everything you could want in a yellow cake and more. Plus it's easy to prepare!

Its tantalizing flavor will leave you convinced this homemade cake is the only way to go. No matter the occasion, this moist yellow cake recipe is always a crowd pleaser.

With its homestyle sweet vanilla flavor, paired with that sophisticated rich chocolate flavor atop, it is destined to impress. This cake proves that sometimes it's the simplest things that are the best!

Olive Oil Cake https://www.cookingclassy.com/olive-oil-cake/ https://www.cookingclassy.com/olive-oil-cake/#comments Thu, 24 Dec 2020 06:53:14 +0000 https://www.cookingclassy.com/?p=57738 Olive Oil Cake - a classic Italian and Mediterranean favorite! Made with rich extra-virgin olive oil which produces an incredibly well moistened, flavorful cake. One of the most delicious desserts you'll make!

Photo of slice of olive oil cake decorated with whipped cream, raspberries and rosemary. Shown on a decorative red plate.

The Best Olive Oil Cake

This tempting cake is truly one of my favorites! It's what I plan to make for Christmas because we love it so much.

In a way the flavors are reminiscent to that of pound cake, but with a delectable olive oil infused flavor all it's own (rather than butter flavor). Then the cake is fluffier with a texture closer to a classic birthday cake.

The recipe includes bolder olive oil for great taste, cake flour for a light and fluffy texture, fresh lemon for an added background flavor, and it's finished with toppings of choice.

Or you can just eat it plan because it's just that good!

I personally prefer pairing with fresh fruit or a fresh fruit sauce and whipped cream. Sometimes you'll see it sprinkled with a few tablespoons granulated sugar before baking, or other times recipes will add a frosting (such as lemon or mascarpone) or a simple glaze (such as lemon or vanilla) after it is completed.

Lots of options to finish or even just use powdered sugar for a pretty and delicate, snowy finish.

It's a simple, humble cake that doesn't need much. Yet it's a cake that never disappoints! A classic dessert that's truly worthy of your holiday menu.

Birthday Cake {Funfetti Cake} https://www.cookingclassy.com/birthday-cake/ https://www.cookingclassy.com/birthday-cake/#comments Mon, 19 Aug 2019 04:53:30 +0000 https://www.cookingclassy.com/?p=46383 The best Birthday Cake recipe! You get a pillowy soft and tender, perfectly light and fluffy funfetti style cake that's generously dotted with rainbow sprinkles and it's swirled with a classic birthday cake and vanilla flavor.

Then of course it's finished with the most luscious buttercream frosting. Everyone will instantly fall in love!

Homemade Birthday Cake

Isn't funfetti what we all think of when we think childhood favorite birthday cake? Even to this day it's still one of my favorites and always will be. But trust me, now making it from scratch you'll love it so much more!

It's fun and easy to make. Yes it  may require the extra step of whipping up the egg whites but the fluffy end result is so worth it!

This homemade recipe far outdoes a box cake mix. The flavor is a thousand times better plus it's naturally flavored with real vanilla and almond extract, and made with real butter.

It also includes a little bit of oil to ensure the cake stays moist.

After many years of testing cakes I'd have to say this is the ultimate birthday cake!

Tres Leches Cake https://www.cookingclassy.com/tres-leches-cake/ https://www.cookingclassy.com/tres-leches-cake/#comments Sun, 11 Aug 2019 16:58:11 +0000 https://www.cookingclassy.com/?p=29066 Tres Leches Cake a must try Mexican dessert! It's a deliciously rich and moist, milk-soaked cake that always gets compliments every time it's served. It's sweet and refreshing, and even picky eaters love this Mexican cake!

Slice of Tres Leches Cake on a small black dessert plate. Cake is a creamy yellow color with a white whipped cream frosting. It's garnished with fresh strawberry slices and mint on top.

Tres Leches Cake Recipe

Tres Leches Cake has got to be one of the world's best kinds of cake! Maybe I'm just biased because I'm a huge fan of sweetened condensed milk and cream, and you get both in this cake.I love to serve it in the summer since it's a chilled and amazingly refreshing cake, but of course people will crave it year round!

It's a perfectly sweet and decadent and just amazingly satisfying. Plus this version has butter!

If you search for tres leches recipes on the web, you'll find about half contain one stick of butter the other half container no butter. Zero. Zilch. Nada. That's just offensive. I'm totally kidding, but when there's a choice I say butter all the way!

Butter makes everything better. It adds a wonderful richness and flavor.

This is an authentic Mexican cake that's perfect for birthdays, parties and holidays and it's just as good as what you'll get at your favorite Mexican restaurants!

Another thing you'll love about making tres leches cake at home is that it's a lot cheaper. Why pay $8 dollars a slice when you can make a full cake at home for about the same price?

Peach Cobbler https://www.cookingclassy.com/peach-cobbler/ https://www.cookingclassy.com/peach-cobbler/#comments Sun, 14 Jul 2019 14:31:27 +0000 https://www.cookingclassy.com/?p=24943 This really is the best Peach Cobbler you'll ever taste!! Made with an abundance of fresh juicy peaches and a fluffy cake-like topping (that's not soggy and uncooked on bottom). Here you'll learn how to make the perfect homemade peach cobbler every time!

Serving of homemade peach cobbler in a white serving bowl topped with vanilla ice cream and mint.

Fresh Peach Cobbler Recipe

Is anyone else going overboard like me and buying peaches like there's no tomorrow? This month I've bought 20lbs+ in the last few weeks and we've been eating them like crazy! Welcome to peach season!

They make the best smoothies, they are one of my favorite fruits for baking, and they're even excellent added to your main dish (like this Three Cheese Peach and Prosciutto Pizza with Basil, or this Balsamic Peach Chicken Skillet, and this Peach Salad with Grilled Basil Chicken).

But we all know one of the all time best uses for fresh peaches is peach cobbler, right? And not just any peach cobbler — THIS peach cobbler! I've made it three times already this summer, and we lick the pan every time!

What Makes this Old-Fashioned Peach Cobbler the Best?

I'm very particular about my peach cobbler. Maybe it's just personal preference, but I believe it shouldn't have a heavy, dense topping, it should have the perfect amount of sweetness and canned peaches should never be used.

You'll love that this has more flavor than you'll find in your traditional peach cobbler (hence why I've used buttermilk, a fair amount of real butter and vanilla extract) and there's no overpowering amounts of cinnamon used here - we want to taste the peach flavor.

And this recipe is made with a fluffy biscuit topping that's really more cake-like than it is biscuit-like. So it compliments the dense peaches better than a heavy biscuit topping would. Plus it doesn't end up soggy and uncooked like many cobblers do on that bottom layer of the topping. Instead of a heavy and soggy cobbler or the overly crunchy topping of an apple crisp, this recipe is perfectly soft.

Whole pan of peach cobbler.

Peeling is Worth the Extra Time for the Best Peach Cobbler Recipe

This may not be as easy as the version with canned peaches and a cake mix, but I'd still consider this an easy peach cobbler recipe. Nothing too difficult, it's still a straight forward, easy to make dessert.

It just takes a bit of time. As in it does take time to peel all those peaches, but the end result is so worth it! Besides it can seem therapeutic just taking time to breathe and peel peaches some days.

It really is the only peach cobbler recipe you'll ever need. It will easily become the highlight of any summer dinner, and you'll get requests to make it again, and again, and again!

Put your fresh peaches to good use and make this irresistible peach cobbler this week, you won't regret it!

Hummingbird Cake https://www.cookingclassy.com/hummingbird-cake/ https://www.cookingclassy.com/hummingbird-cake/#comments Sat, 13 Apr 2019 18:57:17 +0000 https://www.cookingclassy.com/?p=11836 The best Hummingbird Cake! It's a tender, flavorful cake brimming with fresh pineapple, bananas, pecans, and spices and finished with luscious cream cheese frosting and coconut! The perfect cake for Easter or any other special occasion.

Homemade Hummingbird Cake

I think of this cake as banana cake meets the tropics, in that it is loaded with bananas, laced with fresh pineapple and covered in sweet, toasted coconut.

It will remind you a lot of banana bread, but with a bonus of decadent cream cheese frosting of course. There are so many delicious flavors and perfect textures in this cake.

The cake has a nice tender thanks to the sugar and bananas and it has a nice moist crumb thanks to the vegetable oil, it's dotted with juicy bits of pineapple and crunchy toasted pecans, and it's finished with a creamy, lightly tangy frosting and finished with crisp bits of toasted coconut (or chewy coconut if you like it un-toasted).

It's an old fashioned style cake that will likely remind you of home. Made from scratch and sure to please!

The Best Coconut Cake Recipe!

I shared this coconut cake four years ago but I figured it was due time that I re-share it in case some of you may have missed out. It's a recipe book dessert staple!

This is what I'm planning on making for Christmas dessert and I can't wait! Some people look forward to gifts, I look forward to cake.

This cake is elegant and sophisticated yet very traditional and simplistic and it's perfect for the holidays since it's not only incredibly delicious but it's so white and snowy looking.

I love that it's like the cake you remember your grandma serving at family parties growing up. Who doesn't love a good old fashioned recipe like this? The classics are often the best.

Finally, A Soft and Moist Coconut Cake

This will probably be one of the softest cakes you'll ever make and you'll also love that it is incredibly moist (because we all hate a dry cake right?). And it is layered with sweet, natural coconut flavor with every bite, which is complimented perfectly by the light tang of the cream cheese in the frosting.

Good luck saying your only going to have a thin slice. Not gonna happen with this cake. Try it and you'll see what I mean!

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah and Kwanzaa too! I hope you have the best holiday week!
